WHAT IS HOSPICE CARE?

More comfort. More meaningful time.

Hospice is medical, emotional and spiritual care focused on comfort. Eligibility requires a prognosis of six months or less if illness follows its usual course; care for unrelated conditions continues.

Choosing hospice changes the focus of care, not hope. You can stop hospice and return later if you still qualify.

WHAT HOSPICE CARE INCLUDES

Practical help. Whole-person support.

Symptom relief

Everyday care

Social workers, chaplains and volunteers help with emotional, spiritual and practical needs.

Help at any hour

An on-call team guides you by phone and arranges a nurse visit when needed.

Caregiver relief

Respite stays of up to five days give family caregivers time to rest.

Support through grief

Families receive 13 months of bereavement support at no cost.

Regular visits increase as needs change. Family or hired caregivers provide day-to-day care between visits.

Assisted living, group homes and nursing homes

We provide hospice care alongside the facility’s staff, who continue daily care and room and board.

Short-term inpatient or continuous care

When symptoms need more support, care may include a short inpatient stay or continuous nursing during a crisis.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Clear answers before you decide.

  • Who qualifies for hospice?

Medicare requires Part A, terminal illness certified by the hospice doctor and your doctor (if you have one), and a signed choice of comfort care. Care can continue beyond six months with physician recertification. Ask us about other coverage.

  • How is hospice paid for?

The Medicare hospice benefit covers eligible care under Part A; prescription and respite copayments may apply. Routine room and board is not covered, but hospice-arranged inpatient and respite stays can be. We also accept Medicaid, Veterans benefits and private plans. Call to check coverage.

  • Can we keep our doctor?

Yes. The patient’s own doctor works with the hospice team.

  • What if symptoms change at night?

Call the hospice team first at 214-718-9353, any time. The on-call team will guide you and arrange a nurse visit when needed.
